EXHIBITION

We exhibit  in May to 400 delegates as  the part of the Planetary Health Conference 2018 in Edinburgh. A future exhibition is planned for September

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

This project is about how co-operative processes can make visual worlds that are rigorous and ambitious. They can define future sustainable educational spaces in a rich way that goes beyond words. A multidisciplinary community of students work together share ideas and ambitions for places for future learning. We use innovate processes to play to all participants’ strengths to produce a truly collaborative proposal.

THE PROCESS

We use a real building: a life expired enclosure in the heart of the University, strip it back to its bare structure and ask the question; what will make a sustainable and responsible learning environment in 2030? Students working with the Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability collaborate a class from  MSc Advanced Sustainable Design. Together they work through a process of briefing, programme formation, review and editorial.

THE THEMES

Our commissioning group created a briefing document that set out three themes for the project. The first was for adaptable, yet dedicated space to meet and harness contemporary technologies. Complementing this was a call to develop displacement spaces - those informal areas for chance meetings, encounters and spontaneity. Finally, a call by the commissioning group to connect our learning spaces to climate, daylight and flora, reminding us of our place in the natural world.

THE WORK

The building blocks for this project are a combination of the commissioning brief, the design outputs and the editorial to make this exhibition. The visual representation of students’ ambition are a powerful way to communicate what our learning communities wish for. The work is edited and curated by the commissioning group to ensure the design outputs reflect everyone’s intentions.
