Our commissioning group workshop used a series of exemplar projects, photographs of places and spaces as a way of thinking about how learning spaces are developing. Sustainable discourses around long term adaptability and our relationship with the natural world are folded into the mix.
Our commissioning group then wrote a programming document that engaged with the idea that learning can take place in both structured teaching and chance encounter. These themes then formed the basis of the challenge thrown to the design students, to take a building and translate a brief into tangible propositions.
“We could have a winter garden. Let’s be ambitious, and then living walls in the study area.”
“These are areas where we linger … where we want to take a breather… The future of learning is very social [and] we’re the first wave of that social learning generation.” Clifton Esteban
